Acoustic challenge
A challenge arose in the context of an industrial project involving the need to acoustically treat a discharge valve with a roof outlet. Initially, the recorded acoustic levels reached 118 dBA.
Strategic approach
We took a strategic approach, focusing on the design and implementation of a ventilation silencer. We also realised how important it was to have a comprehensive system that combined sound compression and expansion with a labyrinthine internal structure.
Technical solution
The key lay in innovation in acoustic design, which made it possible to improve safety and comfort in this demanding industrial environment, and, in particular, to attenuate noise at lower frequencies, thus overcoming the complexities associated with the discharge valve.
For correct sizing, the following factors have been measured:
Mass flow (gas type and molecular weight): the greater the gas flow, the greater the noise. Lighter gases generate more noise.
Temperature: at a higher temperature, the gas is lighter and therefore noisier.
Pressure: The higher the pressure, the louder the noise.
Output diameter, existence of pressurising discs, existence of diffusers (to convert low frequencies into high frequencies, which are more "friendly" to attenuate).
Results
The initial acoustic level of 118 dBA was drastically reduced to 76 dBA. This achievement improved the quality and harmony of the environment and comprehensively addressed the acoustic challenge.
